It's not the size man! It's how you use it... Oh wait you said tall not small, carry on.

yeah it is. Just like on Tundra. The cup holders are the victims here. On Tundra, you go for your coffee and it gets caught and spilled all over your huevos because it didn't clear the giant shifter. Your elbow will knock shit over in the Dodge as well. Solution.... race spec sequential paddle shifters

Looks about right for something someone might try to race/drive sportingly. The idea is that the more performance oriented you get, the shorter the distance should be between hand position on the wheel and a gear selector change. That's why you see race cars with shifters nearly as tall as the dash and right next to the wheel. Especially for sequentials.

i thought using the word tall instead of long would prevent these type of mockery, but i see that the words dont matter.

true, but those sequentials like on the photo move very little right? and im guessing the challenger will have a lot of travel when shifting

Ive always wanted to use one of those

but shifting takes longer, well it takes more travel

Yeah, that's why the Challenger's is about 50% the height... but also probably 50% the throw of a standard manual. They just scale based on "how performance" they want the car to be or feel. The stubby shifters are for GT/cruising cars where shifting isn't really a hurried process and if you miss/slip off the shifter it won't result in rods flying through the hood very often.

Maybe maybe not?

I've driven an older Boxster which has a pretty tall shifter but the shifts were very quick and snappy.

Worse is the E39 5-series BMW.

Kinja'd!!!

(Imagine that's a manual) Spirited shifts into 3 and 5 result in punching your drinks. Also, they're flimsy pieces of crap that barely hold anything in place.

That pistol-grip shifter probably takes some effort to muscle around, but I still like it.

I think is between "close to zero" and "next to nothing"

Funny anecdote: While searching for a truck for the wife - we decided on a '95 Dakota 5 speed - I came across an odd duck. It was a '98 Ram 1500 5 speed that had the automatic's dashboard installed. You know, the one with the cup holders that popped out of the lower dashboard?

Yeah, that wasn't a good idea. Not a good idea at all.

lol, i didnt do that on purpose i just undestrood what you meant in your comment. and true it may be nothing. and you wouldnt care, just as i dont care that manual shifting takes longer than dual clutch transmissions.

I don't care, I still want to wrap my hand around it. That's not a dick joke, I just really want a Challenger.

Just kidding too.

My preference is a for a long shifter with little travel. Much more comfortable than a small shifter that you might end up overloading your wrist.
